TORONTO, Jun 19, 1999/ TFI/ --- New Labels, a bi-annual fashion show hosted by the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) features some of Canada's rising design talents.

This year's TFI Fall '99 New Labels show was a strong presentation by talented Outreach members: Vir-go' by Karen Uhm and Kafi Wilson; DaemonGirl by Katlin Robinson; Olena Zylak by Olena Zylak; and Harebell by Shelli Oh.

Leading off the show, Vir-go' (photo at left) debuted a polished collection of contemporary dresses and separates influence by modern industrialism. Shots of hot pink and teal revealed through unexpected slash opening livened a mostly sombre pallette of greys.

Participating in her second New Labels show, Katlin Robinson for DaemonGirl (photo at right) presented a collection of 1940's inspired work wear for women.

Contrasting elements appeared throughout the line. Military shades of khaki and grey were countered with soft and feminine colors.

This was the season of the sweater and there was none better than Olena Zylak. (photo at left)

Working with natural wool, yarn, kid mohair and baby alpaca, Zylak created soft, cozy pieces in colours like butterscotch, mauve and celadon.

Sweetley feminine, faire inspired dresses and separates were presented by Shelli Oh for Harebell. (photo at right)

Tiny faux fur trim on hemlines, delicately jeweled straps and ribbon-thread closures were fresh and imaginative.

Faded tints of mauve and copper, pewter, hazel and ice blue set a dreamy landscape of colors.

At the conclusion of the New Labels show, Fashion Group International presented the Eveleen Dollery Award to the most promising Canadian Designer. This year's recipient, selected from the New Labels participants, was Olena Zylak.

To young designers in Canada, being featured at TFI's New Labels show is an honor in itself. Participants are selected by a jury committe representing different sectors of the industry and are assessed on the creativity, execution and marketability of their product. After the initial selection process, the jury meets twice more to evaluate and monitor the designers' progress as their collection develop.
