MILAN, Feb 26, 2005/ FW/ --- Donatella went back to basics, presenting signature Versace silhouettes for Fall 2005, while creating one of the sexiest collections of the season.
Opening with a white bias-cut skirt with an over-sized collar and deep-V neckline, Donatella set the tone for strong women assured of their sexuality.
Followed by a pantsuit set, again in white, again with oversized collar lapels and the jacket snug fitting, it became obvious that Donatella was making the clothes do the talking, the trend that has come out of Milan this season.
After that, it was signature Versace – sexy… sexy… and sexier…
A standout is a black leather biker jacket that was crinkled and ruche, giving it a very feminine appeal with a lot of spunk in it. The only accessory – black leather gloves with Versace medusa snaps.
And of course, the fur coat! This is Milan after all, wherein almost every woman in the street is wearing a fur coat. Fashion week had been marked with very cold weather and 2 out of three women were sporting a fur coat.
Donatella showed a knee-length coat with generous fur trims at the collar, sleeves and plackets but chose to use leather at the main body of the coat. The result, an eye-catching look without going over the top.
The cocktail dresses and evening gowns were the pieces that brought down the house. Flowing and fluid with thigh-high slits and body hugging bodices, they were truly for the red carpet.
Too bad that the Academy Awards is already tomorrow, and the stylists have already decided what the stars will wear because some of the gowns will surely blend well with Hollywood’s most glamorous night.
