MILAN, Jun 29, 2005/ FW/ --- Sunday night, the House of Versace shone bright and clear, as Donatella sent out a very fresh and crisp menswear collection that embodies the spirit of the house.
A kaleidoscope of colors that ranged from bright yellow, blue and old rose, interspersed with the obligatory black and denim, Donatella revisited the 1980s with Don Johnson in mind with the now defunct hit TV series Miami Vice.
Two-toned black & white shoes, sandals for walking the beach, snug fitting shirts, loose suit jackets and short-cropped bomber jackets were more than eye-catching. They have the zeitgeist of the hedonistic lifestyle that was so popular in the 1980s.
Though one can say that Versace had come full circle as this collection was definitely taken from the archives, it is great to note that the spirit of Gianni was very much in this collection.
The cut, the sexiness, the devil-may-care attitude that Gianni Versace made famous was in every silhouette shown.
But to say that it was taken directly from the archives will be wrong also. Donatella also did her homework as she updated the looks for the 2000s keeping in mind that metrosexuality is now a ubiquitous term; that men can be peacocks too, as they show off their nice forms, muscles and of course, Versace clothes.
