Versace: Over-The-Top Sexy
Written by: Karin Nelson

Say what you will about her designs, but this fact remains: no one puts on a show quite like Donatella Versace. And in a celeb-sparse week, it didn't hurt to have newly-wedded mega-diva Jennifer Lopez, in a silver form-fitting gown, front row.

So, before a crowd so packed it was five-person-deep in the standing room, Donatella presented a smashingly over-the-top, sexy collection with skintight silhouettes in fearless reds, purples, yellows and day-glo oversized florals. There were mini ra-ra skirts and dresses with circle cut-outs, as well as lots of leather in the form of punch-hole pants, mini trench dresses, boned tube tops, and jackets with dominatrix-style lace-up back closures.

Then came moments of the wild, wild West, with leather fringe giving some branding-iron heat to the backs of skirts and the arms of jackets. This was saloon chic with Donatella whimsy.

Surprisingly for a designer who's famous for dressing glamour gals on the red carpet, there were few long evening looks - with the exception, of course, of a few unforgettable shimmered numbers in pink and silver. Our pick for evening was not necessarily formal, but it was one of those things you simply have to have: a leather-waisted long chiffon overlay skirt, slit up the leg and v-dipped in back.

Donatella treated her audience once more to what she does best: diva wear. This is a collection Hollywood will like.
