PARIS, May 14, 2003 /FW/ --- Continuing to revisit the elegance of Gianni, the House of Versace presented
a sharp line of Fall 2003 accessories this week in Paris.
Decorouslyavoiding the headaches of the worst French transit strike in nearly 8 years,
the event was rolled back by 24 hours to accommodate the press.
Beneath sprays of pink Phalaenopsis orchids, pieces for both men and women
were displayed in the Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré boutique.
To polish the
patina, a sparkling assortment of hors d'oeuvres featured flutes piped with
wild strawberry mousse and fromage blanc, then crowned with a rose-colored
moss of spun sugar.
And the elegance of the décor matched the refinement of the wintertime
collection.
On the masculine side of the room, a collection of headgear made the rounds
of baseball caps, hoods, ski masks, Stetsons and executive Bowlers.
Energetic shoeware could be traced right to the Italian roots of the
company; sneakers were colored chocolate, cherry and blueberry, contrasting
with the traditional tones of an array of fine, pointy tip shoes and boots
of high quality leather.
Belts came in calf leather, snakeskin and alligator and were ornamented with
metallic buckles bearing the cast of snakes and lions.
One of the hottest items for summer, however, will be the super cool
selection of sunglasses in an extensive set of shapes, colors and designs.
On the women's side, stunning small purses came dripping in chains, or
folded into rectangles of aged crocodile skin.
Silk scarves took on a floral print and blossomed in bright colors ‹ rose,
fuchsia, turquoise, emerald and topaz blue.
For shoeware, sexy high-heel stilettos bore the brand of an inverted V, or
in the most striking version, high-laced boots with spiked red heels oozed a
strong undercurrent of sensuousness bordering on naughtiness.
Elsewhere, gloves were trimmed in black mink and fringed in white leather,
an elegant look that is timeless.
In the precious category, rings were forged with the Versace medusa logo and
inset with rubies. Others bore a V-shape ornament encrusted with diamonds,
sapphires and amethysts.
Watches, in a unique rectangular design, sported
the half-Medusa logo discretely placed to the side of the face.
Winter's winds may be months away, but this fine collection of accessories
is destined to warm even the coldest day.
