Vivienne Tam: Year of the Dragon

Vivienne Tam was born in Canton, China and raised in Hong Kong.
She went to school in London and studied fashion at the Polytechnic Fashion School in Hong Kong.
She came to the United States in 1981 and that same year she established her own label.
In the Chinese calendar, the year 2000 is the Year of the Dragon, and Vivienne Tam based
her collection on the Chinese mythos of the dragon.
Showing her signature style of mixing Chinese elements with modern design, Vivienne Tam
showed hand embroidered pieces on high-tec fabrics.
It was an unlikely mix, but on Vivienne Tam's expert hands, it became a convergence of the
East and West.
Rudyard Kipling one said, "East is east and West is west and never the twain shall meet."
Vivienne Tam proved him wrong in her Spring 2002 collection which feature Chinese designs
on western clothes.
