Vivienne Tam Spring 2006: Tropical Chic with Flowers & Lace
New York Fashion Week Spring 2006
By Heide Winkenwerder
NEW YORK, Sept 16, 2005 / FW / ---- With Edie Sedgwick as her muse, Vivienne Tam brought her audience to a cruise to Bali, taking the tropical flowers of the island from frangipani to orchids and lilies, adding to it Sedgwick’s legendary beatnik cool.
Using such soft and luxurious fabrics as in chiffon, cotton, cotton voile, lace, linen, chiffon and sateen adding stripes, polka dots and playful floral prints on some of the pieces, while dressing up all the models with the 1960s hairstyle, it was a nostalgic trip 40 years to the past, yet Vivienne Tam made sure that the collection stayed contemporary and very up-to-date.
With details that include eyelet, sequins, appliqué and beading, Edie Sedgwick’s legendary style and glamour were easily felt.
And like Edie Sedgwick whose smoldering beauty captured the New York set and the denizens of Andy Warhol’s ‘factory,’ this collection is destined also to capture Vivienne Tam’s devotees and then add some more.
The inspiration might have come from a very turbulent decade, but Vivienne Tam added her signature style that has always enthused serenity and quiet beauty.
So, although this collection was meant partly as homage to Edie Sedgwick, it also became a statement to Vivienne Tam’s inimitable style.
