Vivienne Westwood PARIS, Mar 1, 2005/ FW/ --- Vivienne Westwood’s Fall 2005/ Winter 2006 ‘Propaganda’ collection is one of the best done by the English lady in quite some time. She began the show with several coats done in virgin wool. One was worn with jacket with a soft ruffled front and fly back.

Large black and white lettering rained down upon some of the skirts and dresses throughout the first part of the collection. The volumes are typically Westwood without any unpleasant surprises. Yet everything looks as though it has a purpose and is 100% wearable.

That is good new because although the Westwood collections are creative and require much technique, some pieces sometimes look as if they require a manual in order to properly get into them. But that is what makes the Westwood style so singularly irresistible.

Her slanted coat with hood is a definite winner. The bust lines are reasonable and most appropriate for the cold days to come. They show a little neck and chest, but are without a doubt for winter wear.

Some pieces had a forties quality to them. The best example of this comes in one of her jackets with near exaggerated shoulder pads. One instantly thinks of the of the mink coat designed by Milo Anderson and worn by Joan Crawford in her Oscar winning performance in the 1945 film Mildred Pierce (Le Journal de Mildred Pierce)!

All things said, the collection has a smooth and refined feel to it from everything from the shapes to the finishing touches to the movement of each silhouette.

After an array of dazzling Westwood evening and formal wear drenched in Westwood’s Diamond line aptly titled 'Hardcore' in the latter half of the show, which by the way debuted this season, the capacity filled Salle Delorme at the Carrousel du Louvre was brought to its feet as Madame Westwood sashayed down the runway simultaneously out-walking the best catwalk divas!
