MILAN, Jan 16, 2001/ --- Relax, Prince William. Whenever you've finished that sabbatical year abroad and need to get
kitted up for university Vivienne Westwood will have the clothes for you.
Underlining her academic credentials, Westwood presented her collection in a hall off the
beautiful cloisters of Milan's Statale University.
But Viv's models were different types of
undergraduates, attending lectures in kilts and hiking boots as they clasped the Oxford
Companion to English Literature.
For tutorials, the budding Westwood intellectual favors outlandish baggy pants with leaf
patterns, dandified shirts with high Edwardian collars and long jackets with raglan sleeves.
Post graduation, the Westwood man pursues his career in The City or Wall Street in bowler hats
and striped topcoats over Lurex cardigans.
At times, the cross dressing -- like the boys in pink and beige lace skirts - drew attention
away from the sheer inventiveness of the collection.
This was a pity, as there was no shortage
of great items like super smooth argyle cardigans and divine mohair double-breasted coats.
But the good news is that when Willie Boy makes it back from the Andes his equerry will have
plenty of choices for the student prince.
