Paris, Oct 11, 2001/ FWD/ --- The idea is the spirit of the water, the nymph,” makeup
artist Lyne Desnoyers told FWD backstage at Vivienne Westwood. “The skin is very matte
and light, the eyes are simple earth tones, and lips are foundation and lip gloss, so
the whole look is natural and blended.
The eyes are adorned with heavy, long brown false eyelashes which have been ironed
straight.”
In a fairy tale mood, from under an arch covered with flowers and brambles, pale woodland
nymphs peeked out and delicately approached the flashing cameras and audience.
Shy nymphs in natural muted tones wore their skirts bunched, ruched and draped. Jackets
and shirts were hugely exaggerated at the shoulder, and waists were tightened either with
a cherry leather basque, a belt or a cinched waist band. The proportions of the pieces
emphasized the fragility of the woodland creatures.
Serious nymphs wore heavy cottons and suede skirts with cherry leather aprons to work
the forest. There were occasional dashes of color in the collection - a fuchsia taffeta
dress, green cotton blouses and tiny floral prints.
Sexy nymphs wore handcrafted crochet dresses in black and white, which were tight at the
waist and floated just below the knee. The also donned layered netted skirts and lace
blouses.
Since the recent Westwood pirate boot mania, all eyes were on the models’ feet. There
were fantastic multi-buckle, spike-heeled ankle boots in black leather and strappy
sandals with horse hair trailing or bells tinkling.
