Vir-go' is the collaborative design effort of Karen Uhm
and Kafi Wilson, both alumni from Ryerson Polytechnic University's fashion program. The
duo met while still in school and recognizing their complimentary technical skills and design
philosophy, joined forces to create the Vir-go' label.
Quote:"The TFI is the ultimate starting point for sourcing and networking opportunities,
providing us with the necessary credibility to successfully debut our line."
For Fall '99 newcomers Uhm and
Wilson combine Salvador Dali-esque surrealism with modern industrialism in their collection
of contemporary dresses and separates.
Shots of hot pink and teal revealed through unexpected slash
openings livened a mostly sombre palette of greys. Back accentuating details such as low draped
cowls on tops and skirts and reverse wrapped sweaters were worked from sleek matte jersey and
semi-sheer wool gauze.
Chinese inspired embroidery stretched along a wool pant leg
and across the back of a fitted cap sleeved adding a touch of exotic Orientalism.
