PARIS, Jul 2, 2003/ FW/ --- Tom Ford presented his YSL Rive Gauche spring / summer
2004 men's collection in style, with tighter security than ever and got
inspired by the 1970’s.
Foulards, brightly coloured are used where fat ties aren’t. Jackets are
tailored and suits streamlined, while, trousers slightly flared at the bottom and
groovy white rimmed sunglasses are the accessory.
Perfect outfits for the gorgeous Ashton Kutcher, current TV hunk and Demi Moore's companion.
Too bad, he was not at the audience because he can easily tell 'That 70s Show' creators
Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner and Mark Brazill that its time to talk with Tom Ford about
using some of his collection for the show.
Colors, which began somewhere between bright pastel and just plain bright are perfect
for the hit TV show also.
Jackets are contrasted with pants and shirts, red jacket, blue shirt and pink trousers.
Ford rarely used black in this collection, a very pleasant surprise in this celebration
of being tidy, thinly sexy and very YSL Rive Gauche.
Shirts are printed with traditional Rive Gauche squares and paisley on
shiney light silk or are mono tone, matched with trousers without pleats,
and the official news is that the turtle neck is back and versatile.
Short bright bomber style jackets are reworked, fastened with zips and
buttons, with and without elastic on the cuffs and waist, suede shirts and
neat biker jacket made for a more casual look.
Swimming costumes are boy-legged large briefs, again colourful and slightly reminiscent
of the gym jock strap with contrasting rimming and worn with wetted down shirts .... all
alluding to being somewhere chic in the Mediterranean.
The evening calls for the classic tuxedo and bow tie, possibly a white
jacket, black pants and bright shirt.
Elegance is manly and manly means body hair and according to Ford its time that the
body waxing is put to a stop!
Maybe the designer is thinking of a real 1970s sex symbol - Burt Reynolds, with his
thick chest hair. Or even Sean Connery, which even up to now, long after his heyday as
James Bond 007 is still considered a Hollywood hunk.
No matter what was on his mind, this stylish, chic and sexy collection inspired by the 1970’s,
Ford and YSL go hand in hand as they melted together in supreme coolness and class.
