Jan 3, 2002/ FWD/ --- It seems British beauty Kate Beckinsale’s power to seduce transcends film. The “Pearl Harbor” star has just been crowned Britain’s number one beauty by Hello! Magazine.
She once described herself as having been “a hideous and awkward looking” child, but the
28-year-old leading lady is no longer the ugly duckling.
Beating out model Yasmin le Bon in
second place and actress Kristin Scott Thomas in third, Beckinsale graced the top spot in
the list of Britain’s 25 most beautiful women, composed by a polling of celebrity hairdressers,
designers and photographers.
One of the judges, designer Caroline Charles said, “Kate's classic, yet contemporary beauty
translates so well into the parts she plays, making you believe in the character rather than
the actress.”
Other British beauties that made the list include Kate Moss in fourth, Nigella Lawson in
seventh, Kate Winslet in nineteenth and Catherine Zeta Jones in a lowly twenty-first position.
Though mostly dominated by women under 40, the list also includes Julie Christie, 60, Joan
Collins, 68, and 55-year-old Charlotte Rampling.
