'America's Next Top Model' Premieres at UPN
Dramality Series Hits The Air On Tuesday, May 20 at 9:00 PM
March 31, 2003/ FW/ --- Who needs 'Survivor' at the Amazon, when your job is to survive
the high stakes and high stress of supermodeling?
Reality TV takes a new a twist with 'America's Next Top Model' as it follows 10 young women
for eight weeks as they try to prove they have what it takes to be a supermodel.
The show producers call it 'dramality' TV - short for 'drama' and 'reality'. And like the
precursor of all reality shows - 'The Real World', the show takes place in a New York
penthouse.
Unlike 'The Real World', wherein the cast went through 'everyday real life', the cast
of 'America's Next Top Model' are thrown into the almost 'unreal' world of fashion - catwalks,
intense physical fitness workouts, photo shoots and perfect publicity skills.
Ten young women who were already finalists vying for the title 'America's Next Top Model'
live together for 8 weeks. The show exposes the transformation of these everyday young women
into potentially fierce supermodels.
With mentoring by supermodel Tyra Banks and exposure to high-profile fashion industry gurus,
the finalists compete in a highly accelerated modeling boot camp -- a crash course to
supermodel fame.
Banks leads the panel of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL judges, comprised of leading fashion
industry experts that include former supermodel Janice Dickinson; Marie Claire fashion
editor Beau Quillian; and Baby Phat creative director Kimora Lee Simmons, who will conduct
regular evaluations to narrow the field from week-to-week.
In addition, a new special guest appears each week to judge in his or her area of expertise.
The winner will be awarded a multi-faceted grand prize package featuring the opportunity to
receive a Revlon modeling contract and to be managed by Wilhemina Models, in addition to a
guaranteed appearance in Marie Claire magazine.
Remember the date: May 20 at 9:00 PM, after the series finale of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer.
