PARIS, Jun 3, 2004/ FW/ --- Although Andy Roddick was eliminated at the French Open in
only the second round of the year’s second grand slam, he has a big consolation prize.
He is considered to be one of the sexiest men, if not the sexiest man alive, on the international ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) tour!
Born in Omaha, Nebraska on Aug 30, 1982, Andy Roddick turned pro in 2000, becoming the youngest player to end in the Top 200 and the first American to win the Australian junior title since Butch Buchholz in 1959.
Known for his charismatic personal style and armed with a 140mph serve, the young athlete has engaged a new generation of tennis fans and reenergized a sport that was looking for a new icon.
His face adorned the cover of Tennis Week magazine, above the headline "Finally more hope than hype." Together with Venus Williams, Andy Roddick represents Reebook’s line for tennis.
He's been featured in Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, the New York Times, USA Today, People, The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn and has been voted the Most Beautiful Man of September 2001.
Catching up to him in Paris for an interview with Fashion Windows, Roddick was very modest about his sex symbol status.
“It’s funny because I definitely had trouble getting dates back in high school. Now when my friends bust my chops about being a sort of sex symbol, I just say it only comes from being a tennis player. It seems with every match I win, I get better looking to other people”.
Although the game’s sexiest man left the red clay courts of Roland Garros a bit earlier than expected, readers will be happy to know that the number one US men’s player is already in preparation for the next big events.
He will be in London for Wimbledon in June and in Athens in August for the Greece Olympics. After that, he’ll be back to New York at the Arthur Ashe Stadium where he will defend his US OPEN crown.
Fashion Windows gives special thanks to Samantha Prévot and Reebok France for their help in arranging our interview with Andy Roddick.
