Jan 3, 2001/ FWD/ --- Millionaire movie producer Steve Bing is to sue British tabloid
The Daily Mirror.
Bing made headlines in the Brit papers when he questioned actress Elizabeth Hurley's
announcement that he was the father of her unborn child, claiming the two were not in an
exclusive relationship when the Estee Lauder model got pregnant.
He decided to take The Daily Mirror to court after it published his office phone number and
told readers to tell him "exactly what you think of him." In the article on December 6, the
paper pronounced Bing "a spermicidal maniac guilty of being the world's biggest bounder."
In another story it went so far as to label him Bing Laden and stated he was "wanted for
crimes against Ms. Elizabeth Hurley."
The Sun ran the headline on its front page: "Liz: I'm no tart." Inside, the paper speculated
on how many times the couple was intimate during their 18-month union - and certainly doesn't
mince words. "How many times did Bing bang Liz?," it asks.
Bing has filed a $10 million lawsuit in damages for libel, invasion of privacy and emotional
distress against The Daily Mirror.
Bing's lawyer told sky.com: "They basically gave his telephone number out and told readers
to call up and tell him how they feel. He got death threats. It was a very reckless thing
to do."
