New York, Feb 11, 2001 / FashionWindow/ --- Watching Manuel Fernandez's runway show was like watching
the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant - the elegance, the imagery and the kaleidoscope of colors. In a season
where the military chic is the strongest trend, leaving it and going to a place full of color is like a
breath of fresh air.
This was Manuel Fernandez's second show at 7th on Sixth (Spring 2001 was his first), and he brought
luxury and imagery with him from his native Spain to the runways of New York.
The first piece was a harbinger of the whole show - a beige angora knit outfit worn with shawl and a fedora
hat as an accessory. From there on, the designer kept on raising the ante until the final ecru wedding gown
that was made of exquisite embroidery. In between were beautiful pieces worthy of a contestant in the
Miss Universe.
There was an international flair with the design influences - from a gaucho at the South American pampas,
to the sultry Senorita of Spain, to the fashionable St. Tropez and the mysterious Orient. There was also
the influence of the 1960s Yves Saint Laurent on the mini knit dresses. And of course, there was Manuel
Fernandez's version of sensuality in the evening gowns.
Manuel Fernandez's clothes are not for those who are faint of heart. His clothes say "If you've got it,
flaunt it!" It's all about luxury - from fur to leather and fabrics.
