Nanette Lepore: Model Faces
By: Boyd David
Photos by: Visko Hatfield
We see them on the runway. We see the clothes they wear. We take for granted that they have to
be beautiful. In fact, they change the standards of beauty for each season.
But do we really see them as they are, except for the mannequin on the runway?
Do we see the
intelligence in their eyes? Do we wonder about the person who wears the clothes? Or do we just take
it for granted that they will be there during Spring and Fall to wear the latest fashion?
Through a photographer's eyes, they are "subjects," but on the runway, the models become part
of an assignment. Photos have to be taken, delivered to the editors and writers, then printed on hard copy or
online for all the world to see.
But, Visko Hatfield, is not just your average fashion
photographer. He is also an artist who sees these models not just an assignment but also "subjects". Hence,
this is his tribute to the mannequins on the runway, who season after season bring us the latest fashion. As
expected, Visko Hatfield sees the world in
Double Vision.
