Fresh Faces in Fashion '99
DALLAS, Aug 17, 1999/ FW/ --- Gen Arts Fifth Anniversary Fresh Faces in Fashion Show
is bigger than ever this year. It will premiere in New York City on Tuesday, September 21st at
the Hammerstein Ballroom in the Manhattan Center.
At the event, twelve up-and-coming
womenswear, menswear and accessory designers will be showcased in a runway show as well as through
installations. The Fresh Faces in Fashion Program introduces rising stars by presenting their
designs in a high profile fashion show that otherwise is financially or logistically out of reach.
This year'' event is presented by Ford Motor Company.
The Fresh Faces in Fashion Host Committee includes Tommy
Hilfiger, Bob Mackie, Rebecca Danenberg, Kim Hastreiter, Carolina Herrera, Constance White, Fern
Mallis, and Susan Lazar among other. They are joined by members of the Selection Committee
including: Alice Kim(fashion editor of In Style), April Hughes(fashion editor of
Elle), Daniel Ou(fashion editor of Details), David Thigpen(fashion writer
for Time Magazine), Melissa McElhalton(fashion editor of Mademoiselle),
Mickey Boardman(fashion editor of Paper), Richard Sinnott(accessories director
of Harper's Bazaar), Stefan Campbell(fashion editor of the New York Times Magazine).
Since 1995, the first Fresh Faces in Fashion was presented to
an audience of 300, the Fifth Anniversary Show has grown to accommodate 1700 seated guests. It is the
largest showcase for emerging talent in the United States - presenting rising fashion talent to an
audience that includes international press, celebrities, retailers, socialites and stylists.
The group show is a time efficient and entertaining format through which the industry has discovered
many rising stars. A second show featuring emerging West Coast designers will take place on
November 8th in Los Angeles.
Since 1995, Fresh Faces in Fashion has helped launch the
careers of ready-to-wear designers including Rebecca Danenberg, Rebecca Taylor, ORFI, Sally Pen,
Shoshanna and William Calvert as well as accessory designer Rafe, Eugenia Kin, Frou by Paige Novick
and Patch.
The '99 New York show will include womenswear from Benjamin Cho Collection, Lotta, Plum by
Christina Ramirez Yi, Elisa Jimenez for the Hunger World, Claude Sabbah; accessories from Leyla,
Nikki b., Troy Smith and Urbana as well as menswear lines T.Walko and Slinky Vagabond.
Fresh Faces in Fashion '99 is presented by Gen Art, which is
a national non-profit organization which showcase emerging talent in film, fashion and the visual
arts. In addition to Ford Motor Company, Fresh Faces in Fashion has received support from Cotton
Inc., Atlantic Records & TimesSquare2000.com. Models will be provided by IMG, NEXT and Wilhemina
agencies.
