NEW YORK, Sep 12, 2001/ FW/ --- Due to the tragic event that occurred in New York yesterday, 7th on Sixth has cancelled
the rest of the New York Spring 2002 Shows. The statement was sent about 1:00PM Eastern time yesterday.
From the official statement at 7th on Sixth website, Fern Mallis, Executive Director quotes,
"We are in constant communications with the designers and looking into alterantives
to assist the industry with shows and venues in New York City at the appropriate time."
Prior to 7th on Sixth's announcment, Polo Ralph Lauren had issued an announcement that they have
cancelled their show scheduled on Thursday.
Concerns from the fashion press for the designers poured through email yesterday. Phones were not
working at the New York City area in the wake of the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers.
Sprint housed 27 wideband high speed switches at the bottom of the World Trade Center and those
have been affected by the blast.
On an email message from Mark Montano whose shop is downtown and very near ground zero says,
"We are safe here. Shaken, but alright." He sent the message right after the collapse.
On an email message from Anand Jon and his design team, " Anand Jon and the AJ Team were not directly
affected by the catastrophe downtown. We were still in the studio uptown and had not gone downtown for
show setup. Our prayers go out to the victims and to their families. We
hope that all of the injured and survivors quickly receive medical attention."
