LOS ANGELES, Mar 24, 2003/ FW/ --- The show went on as promised, and with only two interruptions from ABC with breaking news from the war front.

Chicago won Best Picture and won a total of 6 awards, far from the record won by Titanic and Ben-Hur. Coming in with 13 nominations, Chicago had the best odds for winning.

Nine-month pregnant Catherine Zeta-Jones won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in Chicago.

The movie also won Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Costume design and Best Film Editing.

The Pianist which was considered a dark horse before the Oscars suprised everyone by clinching the Best Actor Award for Adrien Brody and Best Director for Roman Polanski.

A tearful Nicole Kidman won the Best Actress Award for her performance at The Hours where she played writer Virginia Woolf.

She and Renee Zellweger were the heavy favorites for this category. This was Nicole Kidman's second nomination in a row.

She was nominated last year for her performance at Moulin Rouge but lost to Halle Berry who took home the Oscar for Monsters Ball.
