Amanda Wakeley: Simply Irresistible

NEW YORK, Feb 11, 2004/ FW/ --- Amanda Wakeley’s presentation at the posh Bryant Park Hotel was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle under the tents.

Quiet and serene, the suite was a perfect venue for the British designer’s luxe creations. Her soft silhouettes created with decisive cuts and precise tailoring is simply irresistible to women with very discerning tastes.

Known for her design philosophy of “simple ideas expressed strongly,” Amanda Wakeley has marked out a distinctive niche in the world’s luxury market.

For Fall 2004, the designer chose to work with leather, velvet and lamé and high-tech fabrics to highlight the richness of the season, but not going over the top.

Her taupe leather trench and lemon green quilted ski jacket speak volumes on understated looks that are head turners.

Cute mini dresses, with asymmetrical shoulders or deep V necklines is very subtle in their sexiness, emphasizing sensuality rather than sexuality.

With the overt sexuality seen at the tents this season, seeing an alluring woman without showing a lot of skin is a pleasing scene.

Amanda Wakeley’s best creations this season could be seen in her evening gowns.

Emphasizing the shoulders using halter-tops and spaghetti straps, with details like exquisite beading, sequins and embroidery, the gowns personify the reason why Amanda Wakeley has been awarded the British Fashion Award for Glamour in 1992, 1993 and 1996.

And chances are, her evening gowns are also the reason why Elizabeth Hurley, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet, Celine Dion, Halle Berry, Joely Richardson, Queen Rania of Jordan and Nigella Lawson are in the list of Amanda Wakeley’s celebrity clientele.

The gowns’ understated elegance is the best statement of the British designer’s artistic prowess.
