SYDNEY, May 3, 2004/ FW/ --- Giant picture frames grew from the runway and rose petals were strewn on the floor, in an
art gallery setting fit to tribute great painters of the Classical movement like John
William Godward.
Gwendolynne’s theatrical interpretation of fashion is beautiful and would have been a
huge success had it not been the longest show I have seen for a while.
Not only nearly an hour late, but in an industry where more is definitely more, and in a
city where fashion week is weeding out the hiccups and trying to push its name to
international status, it is moments like this that let the enthusiasm drop and in the end
it is the lack of important and essential details like editing skill that really do make
a natural selection in a dog eat dog industry easy.
Possibly still the best show of the day, along with Akira, Gwendolynne researches fabrics,
does exquisite beading and lace work and is a rich and important example of what Australian
fashion has to offer the rest of the world.
In the search for perfectionism, beauty and luxurious femininity are always present,
providing us with a romantic, yet strong and confident woman who takes charge of her
sensuality knowing when and where to use it accordingly.
