SYDNEY, May 2, 2005/ FW/ --- From dancing fairytale piano ballerinas by Akira, to Camilla and Marc’s school girl version of the 1964 hit ‘My Fair Lady’ and group shows displaying new talent, day one of Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week is fast becoming a ‘must see’ on the international fashion calendar.
With last night’s Australian television premiere award ceremony taking place in cosmopolitan Melbourne, the Logie’s red carpet was the perfect preview to exactly what Australian designers are capable of.
Hence while denim, t-shirts and stringy slip dresses seem synonymous of ‘Australian Fashion’, style and a strong sense of design have their roots firmly planted in the blinding white beach sand, basking under the harsh unforgiving sun, and being nourished by impromptu rain showers.
With a sparkling sprint in their step and a beaming envious summer color palette, distinct trends already begin to emerge even after the first day of collections here in Sydney.
