SYDNEY, May 3, 2005/ FW/ --- Three emerging designers stood out during the first group show of the day.
ALEXANDRA NEA is about lightness and steamy hot summer nights. Oriental prints dance on silk thanks to technologies finest.
Through flowing femininity and oriental inspired prints, Nea continues to show her signature pieces like little cropped georgette jackets embellished with sequins and dream dress, perfect for any summer dream date with plunging neckline that turns to bodice before being pinched at the waist.
BREATHLESS SELFH has taken a liking to stripes, and silky ones at that. Rebecca Paterson pays homage to Camille Claudel, Rodin’s betrayed lover. This ‘geek couture’ can be worn on the street or dressed up to the nines.
Stand-alone collars are buttoned around the neck to solve the inevitable jewellery problem and trousers are high waisted while skirts and dresses are hitches, pulled and layer to create an abstract Parisian type asymmetry and volume.
LORENA LAING is about unfinished seams. Her pieces often look like the lining for unfinished pieces.
Originally from Chile, Laing uses diagonals and soft curves to define the female body. Gold and silver are splashed onto trouser legs and jacket arms for a touch of individuality. Unfortunately the only consistency with Laing’s collection is that all outfits were worn with cowboy boots.
