New Age of Ethnic Fabric & New Age of Design
The annual Bangkok International Fashion Fair (BIFF 2002) is organized under cooperation between
the Department of Export Promotion and 9 private associations. The fair will be the center of
fashion products in the region. It will be organized under the theme, "New Age of Ethnic Fabric & New Age of Design."
Creating Thai unity by New Age of Ethnic Fabric & New Age of Design
The overall environment will be to emphasize the image of New Age of Ethnic Fabric with the
decoration of ethnic fabric that currently has a better potential than in the past. There is the
improvement in details of production process when meet the international standard such as the
mixing of new materials in the fabric or the adding of greater creativity in the production
process to produce unique ethnic fabric.
The colors and patterns are creatively designed to create unique products that match international
trend.
The image of "New Age of Design" will be visualized in the "Young Fashion Designer
Room" that exhibited works of many new generation designers whose works are well accepted
in the international arena. Visitors will have opportunities to witness Thai designers’ works that
have quality compatible with works of the world famous designers.
The earlier success of the BIFF
At the BIFF 2001 held in January this year, there were 463 companies occupied 920 booths, of which
406 companies occupied 704 booths were from Thailand and 25 companies occupied 30 booths were from
Germany, Lao, Cambodia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Pakistan, Hong Kong and China. The exhibitors increased
by 23.46% from 350 companies in January 2000 and trade conducted during the fair was exceeding
1.4 billion baht.
The amount was tremendous increased from previous year of only 44.61 million baht of trade. The
immediate deals at the fair were worth 54 million baht, and another 1.35 billion baht was for
advanced orders to be delivered with in a year. Top three buyers at the fairs included the United
States (1.08 billion baht), France (88 million baht) and Denmark (60 million baht).
The goal of the BIFF 2002
The fair organizer anticipate greater attention from all parties. It aims towards having 550
exhibitors to occupy 1,100 booths at the fair. Currently, there are more than 100 companies signed
on for the fair.
The BIFF 2002 is likely to generate 50% more of trade value than the BIFF 2001 and attracts more
than 5,000 visitors domestically and aboard.
