Bangkok, June 25, 2001/ FW/ --- Mr Banphot Hongthong, Director-general of Department of Export
Promotion of Commerce Ministry chairs the press conference on the launching of Bangkok
International Fashion Fair (BIFF) 2002 at the conference room, 1st floor of the department
on June 25, 2001.
Mr Banphot informed the press that the policy of organizing this event was to promote Thailand
as the center of business negotiation in the South East Asia region. The department wants
to create a unique fair to differentiate Thailand from other fairs organized by other countries
in the region.
There are also representatives of private sectors at the press conference. Mr Suchart
Chantranakaraj, President of Thai Garment Manufacturing Association, talks about the readiness
and potential of Original Equipment Manufacture (O.E.M.) that will expanding the export bases
to new markets.
Mr Somchai Songwattana, President of Thailand Brand Association mentions about the development of
Thai fashion industry and brand name which begins to have an active role in maintaining a good
image in the world market. The brand will be a significant tool to help Thailand establishes
strong fundamental in the adjustment to more value added items.
After the press conference, there will be a discussion in a small group on ‘’The Inspiration of
Thai Fashion to International Market” in order to inform fair’s exhibitors in details of the
policy and direction o the BIFF.
Ms Supatra Srisuk, senior official of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) also join the
discussion to express opinions on export, as a representative from the government.
The BIFF 2002 will be held during January 21-25, 2002 at Bangkok International Trade and
Exhibition Center (BITEC). Trade will be conducted during January 21-23 and the fair will be
opened to the public between January 24-25.
The theme, ‘’New Age of Ethnic Fabric & New Age of Design’’ is applied to create the
international perception of the fair in overall.
