PARIS, Mar 10, 2004/ FW/ --- The Belgian-born Bruno Pieters (27), graduated from the Royal
Academy of Antwerp with honors in 1999, and went straight to work as an assistant designer for
Martin Margiela, Josephus Thimister and Christian Lacroix Haute Couture.
He also worked as a freelance designer for companies such as New York Industry (Milan0 and Antonio
Pernas (Madrid).
In 2001, he presented his first couture colleciton entitled "Part I: Daywear. The suit" during the
Paris couture week. The collection was a presentation of pieces based around one single item such
as the suit, only differing in fabric, cut and colour.
Launching his first complete ready-to-wear in March 2002, his Spring/Summer 2004 collection was
inspired by Pieters' penchant for techniques and craftsmanship.
The "Under Construction" collection was a very personal work: draped silk chiffon dresses, in fresh
pale yellow, handcrafted pleated miniskirts, skinny suede pants under loosely knitted cardigans.
Bruno also experimented with leather incrustations on jersey tops and sweaters.
The "Under Construction" collection can be described as the very opposite of deconstruction.
In March 2004, Bruno Pieters returned to the Paris runway with his Fall 2004 ready-to-wear collection
entitled "Johathane" which was inspired by Richard Bach's 1970s bestseller "Jonathan Livingston Seagull."
