Paris Haute Couture Fall 2003
Carven by Pascal Millet: Trapped Between Giants
By Staff Writer
PARIS, Jul 12, 2003/ FW/ --- Carven, which is actually one of the oldest of the Parisian
Houses presently showing couture, had the misfortune of finding itself sandwiched in between
two of the biggest, Valentino and Gaultier.
That translated into a dearth of coverage for what turned out to be a show
chock full of highly wearable clothes designed by Pascal Millet.
Carven chose to present only 30 pieces instead of the mandatory 40, but
who's counting?
Not the house clients who were there to see what they will be wearing this fall.
Pascal Millet sent out suits, vests and bombers, for the ladies who prefers class
to flash.
And then, there were moments of exceptional beauty, as in a dress in
rose silk crepe, or an evening gown of plum silk interlaced with white satin
and dusted with a fine spray of plumes.
For evening, a glittering robe of black tulle frosted with silver sequins
left no doubt of Millet's consummate mastery of couture.
Let's hope for better scheduling next season. Though judging from the applause
of Carven's house clients, they will attend a Carven show anytime, anywhere.
