About six weeks prior to that meeting, he’d just abandoned his position at Givenchy to take
over as Carven’s couturier.
Rumours were flying like hogwash because McQueen too announced his departure from Givenchy.
[Now, I have to say this. Although rumours flew around about both men and Givenchy, I know
what really happened. Let’s just say as a side note that I got it from mouth of the
proverbial horse. (LOL!)
But, I categorically refuse to breathe a word of it as it may cause discomfort to another designer that has been recently disgraced! Now back to the story]:
Well, to my chagrin, no commercial deal was ever negotiated between my client and Carven. However, fate would intervene, giving me the chance to cross paths again with one of couture’s best keep secret.
In launching my own programme, Fashion Insider, a few of months later, I decided that it would be great to interview Pascal just as he was signing his very first haute couture collection for Carven.
So the second time we met, my television crew and I invaded his offices, ateliers and showroom. After numerous retakes of the introduction (due to my own bad case of nerves), I learned that Pascal is very patient. I think that we had to do at least 12 retakes because of my own bumbling!
In the end, things went well. Pascal thanked me and the crew of Fashion Insider for giving him the opportunity to express himself to our viewers. It was his very first television interview. I was so honoured to be his first.
