NEW YORK, Apr 15, 2003/ FW/ -- She's beautiful, she's talented, she's rich and famous. All these
describe Nicole Kidman. And now, she will be receiving fashion's highest honor, the CFDA
Fashion Icon Award.
The award will be presented during the CFDA's annual awards gala on June 2, 2003 at the
New York Public Library.
The honor was voted on by the CFDA and a nominating committee comprised of
over 450 fashion designers, retailers, and press.
A favorite of Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Dior, Nicole Kidman has graced
public functions wearing couture gowns designed by the biggest names in Paris.
During this year's Academy Awards when she won Best Actress, Ms. Kidman accepted
her award in Jean-Paul Gaultier's three-strap gown, taken from the Spring Summer 2003
Haute Couture.
Last year, during the 74th Academy Award when Ms. Kidman was nominated for Best Actress
for her performance as the tragic Satine in 'Moulin Rouge', she wore a Chanel couture gown
designed by Karl Lagerfeld.
Last December, during the opening night of the movie 'The Hours', Nicole Kidman wore a
one-button black tuxedo 'quille' jacket with matching slacks designed by Hedi Slimane
of Dior Homme.
Whatever she wears, she looks good in it!
She can wear her hair curly or straight, be in a pair of jeans or a gown, and she still
manage to look as elegant as ever.
As one fashion editor commented, 'She can wear a sack and still look beautiful.'
The CFDA does not give the Fashion Icon Award lightly. Previous winners of the
CFDA Fashion Icon Award - actresses Lauren Bacall, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren
and Elizabeth Taylor are still considered some of the most beautiful women in the world.
