Colombia Fashion Week 2002
The Final Word from ColombiaModa
By Merri Grace McLeroy

Aug 21, 2002/ FWD/ --- Following breakfast with Medellin's Mayor Luis Pérez Gutiérrez, Claudia Abuchaibe presented her finely finished and colorful cocktail fashion show.

Others, including Everfit, Pepa Pombo and Bettina Spitz opted instead for 'model performances' inside the InexModa tradeshow.

Everfit produced an over-the-top Broadway-style dance to promote their comfort fabric.

Pombo, who designs fabrics specifically for each design, needed no more than a model and booth to capture her audience.

Surreptitiously confined to the premises as Colombia's President Uribe made an afternoon appearance at the tradeshow, reporters patronized the hair salon, make-up artist and masseuse provided gratis by Schwarzkopf.

An Ivana-inspired up-do was perfect for Orbitel's closing Badgley Mischka fashion show and gala at the Country Club de Ejecutivos.

The show began with Beatriz Camacho, who described her collection as "portraying a time when women were more feminine."

Flesh-tone silk chiffon separates and dresses of asymmetrical layers and textural scissor cuts, appeared as light as feathers.

Models carried boa clutches and wore jewelry by Venezuelan Lilia Lopez.

Said Lopez, "I think my jewelry picks the lady it wants to go with."

Neiman Marcus sells her one-of-a-kind designs, and Lopez confided that she has plans to open a store in Miami.

Mark Badgley and James Mischka couldn't make their scheduled appearance.

However, their show went on.

Tone-on-tone embroidered sequins detailed suede separates, silk eveningwear and a gray crushed velvet evening coat, betraying their signature Barbie/Ivana style.

For the finale, male models, costumed as a minuteman, a sailor, and so forth, escorted brides down the aisle.

Badgley Mischka patronesses were appeased after all.

The 'Night Dream' gala followed, signaling the end of ColombiaModa 2002.

"It was a beautiful conclusion to the week," said Alicia Mejia, director, ColombiaModa/InexModa.
