Corey Lynn Calter LOS ANGELES, Mar 23, 2006/ FW/ --- The first day of spring was last Tuesday, but it still snowed in Los Angeles, on Corey Lynn Calter’s catwalk preview actually, as she proposed 39 looks for Fall 2006.

With a seeming theme of ‘Winter Around the World,’ Calter who returned to Smashbox Studios after a two-year hiatus is in her usual form, presenting a tight collection that was cute, pretty and feminine.

Opening with a double-breasted cocoon coat in chocolate wool cashmere felt, Calter’s penchant for using luxe fabric was already evident. Sending different variations of the jumper, from shorts, skirts and suits, Calter used plaid crinkle wool, silk satin and silk charmeuse giving an opulent feel to this otherwise plebian outfit.

For a sophisticated touch, Calter sent a ruche cocktail dress in chocolate lace with Victorian pin tuck jersey top and a handkerchief dress in printed silk. The Victorian looks gave way to European-inspired dresses like the Ukrainian folk dress in black silk and the empire boudoir dress in wine charmeuse and the Edwardian dress in silk organza.

Moving to Asia, Calter then tackled Japan, presenting a Mt. Fuji blocked dress in Japanese botanical print silk and a kimono fairy dress in dot floral print silk. The finale, a Victorian doll dress in lace and velvet appliquéd silk, though not very dramatic was very wearable and highly desirable.

Never missing a step from beginning to end, Calter sent all her models walking under falling snow to conclude the show.

And as Corey Lynn Calter took her bow, she revealed the reason for her absence – a beautiful baby girl named Sadie Jane.
