New York Fashion Week Spring 2006

LOS ANGELES, Sep 25, 2005/ FW/ --- ‘What I really want my clothes to convey is how a woman feels wearing them,’ designer Doo Ri Chung was quoted at the UPS Delivers Fashion’s Future official publication.
One of the 10 winners in the UPS fashion grants, Doo Ri presented her Spring 2006 collection at the specially created venue at the tents in Bryant Park for emerging designers.
And what a collection she showed! It was a statement of effortless charm and grace.
Showing a total of 26 exits, and choosing a very neutral color palette of white and beige, Doo Ri’s collection was all about the cut and mastery of tailoring skills.
Loosely cut pants paired with shells finished off with a jacket or coat. Separates went the same way, low-waisted skirts matched with empire-waist blouses that were either gathered or finished with big ruffles that draped effortlessly.
An emerging designer Doo Ri might be, but this Parson’s grad learned from the masters. She worked with Donna Karan and Stanley Herman before going to Geoffrey Bean as a lead designer.
Her Spring 2006 collection was inspired by a sepia-toned photograph by Deborah Turberville, hence the chosen color palette.
A sure sign that she has truly mastered her craft – the closing look, a beige gown worn by Tiu wherein the bodice was fully beaded and the floor-length skirt started at the hips like a second skin then flaring gracefully to the ankle.
