Givenchy DALLAS, May 6, 2007/ FW/ --- With Port America’s Cup in full swing, and the highlight of the competition scheduled to happen in July when the winners compete for the ultimate prize, the 32nd America’s Cup; it’s hard not to say, ‘too bad that Riccardo Tisci’s Fall 2007 collection at Givenchy is not on stores yet because the ladies would just look good on them!’

Going for a nautical theme for his 4th ready-to-wear collection at Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci reworked the traditional naval uniform that turned out to be very feminine instead of mannish.

The bell-bottom pants we made wider and the signature Cracker Jack was transformed into pockets sans the expected buttons. The peacoat was given bigger lapels and done both in fabric and in fur.

The utilitarian trench coat, usually used on deck when a sailor is on watch during a rainy night was pinched at the waist to show off the woman’s figure. And the biggest surprise, the traditional sailor blouse, with the flap behind was made shorter and the flap was curved instead of squared. Instead of fabric flap, fur was used for a very luxe look.

The dress blues did not escape Riccardo Tisci either. Proposed both as pantsuit and floor length skirt, the white tuxedo shirt was reworked with big bows and long ribbons.

As for the medals, buttons and rank markings, they became golden square and round grommets adorning coats and dresses from front to back.

It was not just the uniform that Riccardo Tisci used as inspiration. The nautical knots were seen on gowns, the ‘big hemp’ turned into tubular piping that actually made the bodice!

Yes… it’s really too bad that this collection is not available in stores yet. Port America’s Cup is enjoying a record year, welcoming its 1 millionth visitor for the season last April 14, and the numbers are still growing.

There are a lot of parties and scenes where everyone can be seen and the ladies would surely love being seen in Givenchy.
