DALLAS, Sep 5, 2003/ FW/ --- Like the proverbial phoenix who rose from its own ashes, Gustavo
Arango is back in New York's fashion scene, this time stronger and more exciting.
After the events of Sept 11th destroyed his apartment, Arango returned to his home in Puerto Rico.
Amidst his boyhood home, family and friends, he took stock of his situation and decided to start over,
from scratch.
He restructured his collection. Instead of designing bridged-priced clothes, he created evening wear
and luxury day wear.
'Gustavo,' the label which his bridge clothes went by was put on the shelf. The designer decided
to launch his eponymous label, "Gustavo Arango" which is expected to generate first year sales
volume of approximately $1 million.
His story has truly become an example of enduring creativity and rejuvenation of the spirit
of fashion.
Born in Cali Columbia and raised in the city of San Juan Puerto Rico, Gustavo Arango
began his fashion life in 1989 when he enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
His passion for design, fashion and color and a constant drive to create landed him a
job as a fashion designer at Pierre Balmain in 1991.
In 1994, he felt ready to be on his own and launched his first signature line, 'Gustavo.'
His commitment to quality and fresh style was noticed by the House of Bill Blass, and
in 2000, he started designing an exclusive Bill Blass suit line licensed to Zaralco LLC.
