2001 New Jewelry Designer Nominees

Each year, promising new talents in the jewelry industry exhibit their designs in the New Designer Gallery and also compete for the title of "New Designer of the Year." This year’s winner will be selected during the JA New York summer show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Monday, July 30 at 3:00 P.M. All the designer pieces will be on display for the entire JA New York show, July 29 – August 1, 2001.

According to Drew Lawsky, show director of JA New York, “The jewelry industry thrives on creativity and fresh ideas. Buyers rely on the New Designer Gallery to preview up-and-coming work and new faces in the industry. It is great to be part of a program that helps launch the careers of deserving new designers.” Mort Abelson, founder of the New Designer Gallery, will evaluate the works of the new artists along with a prominent panel of judges, all previous winners of the award, Whitney Boin (1983), Diana Vincent (1984), Eddie Sakamoto (1986), Susan Sadler (1988), Steven Kretchmer (1992), Alex Sepkus (1993), Mark Schneider (1996), and Pedro Boregaard (1999).

As previously mentioned, the winner will be announced by Mr. Lawsky and presented by Mr. Abelson at 3:00 P.M., Monday, July 30, in front of the New Designer Gallery in the Galleria, Level Four.
