LONDON, Feb 15, 2005/ FW/ --- Last week, Coty announced the signing of a global licensing agreement with Sarah Jessica Parker to develop and market a line of fragrances.
The unnamed fragrance line, which will debut in the Fall, marks the first entrance by the internationally known actress into the fragrance market. According to the announcement, the line will be designed to reflect the talent, style and confidence of which she has become a symbol.
For Parker, there is life after the award-winning HBO series, “Sex & The City.” She was named Fashion Icon during last year’s CFDA Awards and also headlined The Gap advertising.
Once again, the “name” of a celebrity, be it an actress or musician, even an athlete has become a brand. Call it “instant name recognition,” and you have a captive market.
As long as corporate America supports these “brands,” we will continually have fashion-tertainment labels.
