Future Classics Spring 2006: Abstract Take of the Classics
London Fashion Week Spring 2006
LONDON, Sep 24, 2005/ FW/ --- Julie Wilkins, designing under the label Future Classics signed her second collection as an ‘on-schedule’ designer for London Fashion Week sticking to what she does best – deconstructing old favorites and reconstructing for a more contemporary and modern silhouette.
Wilkins who launched the label in 2000 opted for neutral color palette and sorbet shades of green, which is the rage this season.
The collection entitled ‘Abstract’ is aptly named, as the former singer/songwriter juxtaposed classic elements into unexpected places like the elastic hem of a golf shirt ending diagonally as a result of intentionally cutting one side.
Then, there is the ‘bustle’, which historically is placed at the back ended up as a layered bodice of a spaghetti-strap empire waist frock creating volume in an unanticipated location.
Harem pants became knee-length while oversized shirts were translated into slim fitting ensembles with halter necks and asymmetrical hemlines.
Wilkins’ fresh take on fashion make her a name to watch in the London fashion scene.
