Arkadius of the Opera
By: Mari Davis
Sep 5, 2002/ FW/ --- It's a good news and bad news situation. The bad news is: Arkadius has
cancelled his Spring 2003 show in London. The good news, we will be seeing more of him, not on the
fashion runway, but at the theater!
And the better news - Arkadius has been named the Designer of Costumes for Placido Domingo's new
production of Don Giovanni.
It started a few months ago, when Placido Domingo, in his role as Artistic Director of
the Los Angeles Opera examined Arkadius’ ideas and sketches.
Impressed with the designer's work, the famed tenor decided that Arkadius is the perfect choice
to design no less than 250 costumes for Don Giovanni.
Arkadius’ outrageously erotic and flamboyant designs promise a unique depiction of Mozart’s
infamous roué and all his glamorous conquests.
Arkadius’ new creative role in liaison with one of the world’s leading Opera companies follows the heels
of his receipt of the highly prestigious NESTA, (National Endowment for Science, Technology
and the Arts) Fellowship Award.
