LOS ANGELES, Mar 23, 2006/ FW/ --- Showing on the last day of Los Angeles Fashion Week, David Meister’s Fall 2006 collection is a delicious treatment of ‘menswear textures and patterns’ constructed with feminine fabrics of stretch satins and chiffons.
With Liya Kebede, Natasha Poly, Amanda Moore, Mini Anden, Emina, Hye, Lisa Cant and Marta on the catwalk, these top models did more than justice to this beautiful collection proving once more than that good casting and good catwalkers are important elements for a successful show.
Opting for a black and white color palette, David Meister put mannish clothing center stage starting with the different variants of the jacket from double-breasted to tuxedo.
Emphasizing the female figure, Meister used obi-wide belts to cinch the waist, and cut the jackets wide on the shoulders and hips, while gracefully tracing the torso keeping the waist slim.
Trousers were cut slim, but given a relaxed fit; black leggings were reintroduced, giving the collection a 1980s feel but it did not look dated; in fact, all the pieces looked modern and contemporary.
Trench and outer coats were cut wide, sometimes in an A-line silhouette, while sweaters were blouson and the sleeves puffed between the shoulder and the crook of the elbow giving it softness and a touch of romance.
While all the daywear was mannish, eveningwear were all femme. The torso cut taut then continued on to trace the hips and eventually flaring around the knee ending in a flounce when the hem touches the floor.
With this collection, debutante David Meister just put himself on the designers to watch list in the Los Angeles fashion scene.
