LOS ANGELES, Oct 19, 2005 / FW / - Juan Carlos Obando was inspired by the work of a 1982 Nobel Prize winner for literature Gabriel Garcia Marquez whom also is a native of his homeland, Columbia, “La Revancha De Remedios la Bella (The Revenge of the Beautiful Remedios).

As mentioned on Obando’s press notes, “this show is dedicated not only to Remedios la Bella, but to all the women who are my inspiration, desire and passion – the women who bring forth the face of a life, the women who witness and grieve death. In this collection are the silhouettes of women that have inspired me from childhood to adulthood, and inspire me from the afterlife.

He also collaborated with his great friend and artist, Patrick Phegley using his graphic skill and hand-printing techniques giving the collection a unique touch which help translate the pieces.

Catherine Michiels on the other hand, brought to Obando’s collection rare and one of a kind pieces from all over the world such as necklaces and handbags giving the look that final touch.

Showing 30 looks of well structured pieces enhancing the silhouette of a woman in every way delivering volume, mass, color, and textures all of which Obando wanted to attain and did so exquisitely.

He used luxe fabrics of cottons and linens invoking simplicity, purity and innocence to the sinfulness and self indulging silks, exotic skins and rich taffetas.

Showing his pieces in hues of white, for the simplicity, purity and innocence and aqua, purple, crimson, and your basic black for the sinfulness, self indulgence and exotic bit of it.

The designer also added a drama by sending his swimwear pieces when the models came out with their exposed body part painted in black.

His details were minimal but positioned in all the right places as in the hand placed petals, suspended layer ruffles, hand printed fish appliqué, and hand beaded appliqué.

Standouts include the silk and cotton mesh tank top with muslim bias trim over burlap amaranta skirt, black silk taffeta Magdalena coat with fur and velvet belt and the black silk taffeta remedies suspended gown with hand printed details.
