Deborah Lindquist Spring 2006: Sirens In Our Midst
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios (Los Angeles Fashion Week) Spring 2006
By Heide Winkenwerder
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20, 2005 / FW / - Deborah Lindquist presented ‘Sirens of Spring’ to showcase her Spring 2006 collection. A siren is believed to sing beguilingly to passing sailors in order to lure them to their doom on the rocks she sat on. And just like a siren, this designer captivated her audience with the 36 looks that was shown.
Deborah Lindquist used eco-conscious recycled fabrications in order to contribute to help preserve the planet through this collection.
Using new color and prints through the use of recycled silk scarves added a new flavor on her signature cashmeres, kimono and sari embroideries. She also incorporated semi-precious stones, shells and new eco-conscious fabrics such as hemp, hemp/silk, organic cotton and raffia creating this ecologically conscious, fashion-forward blend of old and new.
With the soothing sound of water splashing as background music, a beautiful little girl comes out to open the show in a baby blue tulle dress and a starfish adornment on the side of her head. In this journalist’s eye, this little girl represents the future and reason why the planet’s preservation is detrimental to our society.
Deborah Lindquist showed skirts, bustiers, pants, dresses and gowns with fine detailing of sequins, bead and embroidery placed intricately in all the right places and with a combination of dainty flowers and shells intertwined in each model’s hair completing the look of the muse.
Long and lean silhouettes that all seamed to flow and float paraded one right after the other and certainly captured and kept the audience gasping.
And finally, the last look was a beaded vintage sari with hemp/silk bustier dress as well as the same little girl that came out at the beginning of the show, this time in white.
Therefore, if you want to be the Siren who wishes to captivate your on-looker, then the Deborah Lindquist Spring 2006 collection may just be the one to grant that wish.
