  • Fashion Front Moves To The City of Angels
    By Lucy Oblena

LOS ANGELES, Mar 21, 2003/ FW/ --- The international fashion season might be over, but the fashion front continues to move. And this time, it has landed in Los Angeles.

Even with the winds of war dampening the Oscars, the fashion community in L.A. are making preparations for their very own fashion week.

The Fall 2003 season is historical for L.A.'s fashion community. This is the first time that 7th on Sixth, producers of the biannual New York Fashion Week is producing the show.

In an announcement last January, Fern Mallis, Executive Director of 7th on Sixth and Mercedes-Benz Shows LA said, "7th on Sixth will continue the tradition of organizing, centralizing and modernizing designer shows for press, retailers, and buyers in downtown LA."

Slated to take place in Downtown LA Standard Hotel, three venues had been created to accomodate the runway shows.

The Lot, the largest venue, located on the parking lot adjacent to the hotel's entrance will feature a 78' long center runway, accommodates 600 guests and cost $3500.

The Avenue located on the mezzanine of the hotel, features a 72' long center runway, seats 210 and costs $1200.

The smallest venue, the Atelier, also located on the mezzanine, will feature a 74' U shaped runway, seats 200 and costs $750.

According to Mallis, all venues will include backstage areas that are fully equipped with clothing racks, mirrors, make-up lights, headsets and radio communication.

As with the New York shows, standardized seating plans are provided for each show to expedite pre-seating and multi-tiered media risers accommodate a growing press corp.

And with the current political situation, security is utmost in the mind of the show producers.

Security will be provided to assure a safe and efficient flow of guests. "The services and amenities that come with the venues leave the designers with only one thing to concentrate on- the clothes", said Mallis. "This is the hallmark of a 7th on Sixth production".

    See you in Los Angeles!
