Louis Verdad LOS ANGELES, Oct 17, 2005/ FW/ --- ‘The runway is a place to dream… we must remember the beauty that surrounds us, so I want to share with you my spring vision… I hope it takes you to the same places I see…’ Louis Verdad said in his press notes.

A walk in the park during the 1950s, the mistress of the house wearing a peplum jacket and pencil skirt, followed by her maid wearing a nu-maid dress in black stretch poplin.

Louis Verdad’s vision is innocence and refinement, sophistication and playfulness. He proposed two silhouettes, one structured, the other fluid.

He played with tailored looks like in the micro jacket in the candy stripe pink done with bubble sleeves, then interjected it with flowing shapes when he paired the micro jacket with a white rayon jersey ruffle tank.

His ladies represent two sides of a coin – one prim & proper, the other a coquette and mischievous.

Verdad who was discovered during the Gen Art 2003 Fresh Faces in Fashion here in Los Angeles caught the eyes of the fashionista set when Madonna wore his creation during the infamous ‘kiss’ of the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

And although it can honestly be said that Madonna is not his muse, the music icon’s chameleon-like ability to bounce from good girl to bad girl and then back echoes Verdad’s flexibility when it comes to designing clothes.

Using classic tailoring to emphasize the female form, Verdad described his signature style as “beautiful, feminine silhouettes that are very menswear inspired,” again as told in a magazine interview.

His Spring / Summer 2006 collection’s 51exits typify Louis Verdad’s trademark style that his devotees had love. And with the catwalk show presented last night at the Smashbox Studios, the Chicago-born designer is well on his way to becoming L.A.’s rising star.
