LOS ANGELES, Oct 30, 2003/ FW/ --- Two shows in one! LA-based designer Michelle Mason
showed her diffusion line, ‘mason’ and her eponymous label ‘Michelle Mason’ Tuesday afternoon at The University.
The opening garment for the ‘mason’ line --- a gold satin jacket paired with a khaki hot
pant for the ‘mason’ line, followed with a khaki sleeveless hooded top matched with a white
tuxedo pant with pink satin stripe --- showed that the designer is serious about providing
a woman with a versatile wardrobe.
The two garments can be worn as they were shown on the runway, or mixed and matched for a different look.
It was a big collection, with 45 garments shown; yet it was very tight and focused.
It enables "the wearer to make an easy transition from day to evening," Michelle Mason said
on the runway preview.
Michelle Mason also broke several new grounds in fashion with the ‘mason’ line.
The now ubiquitous low-rise skirt became frilly and feminine with bias cut and ruching added.
It also became a knee-length skirt with a drawstring embellished with baby pleats both in
front and back.
The designer also did a new take on the bikini bottom making it a mixture of a hot pant
and a bloomer --- sexy looking but not showing a lot of skin.
The look is urban romantic, youthful and progressive.
The upscale ‘Michelle Mason’ line was mostly eveningwear.
Memorable pieces include the khaki cocktail dress trimmed with red leather worn by Gerren
Taylor, latest model who is a crowd favorite; and finale piece --- a white gown with chiffon ruffles
and the neckline so low that it revealed the navel.
The designer also created trouser sets for work and tuxedo pieces for evening.
Note of interest – the whole Michelle Mason line was modeled by an entire line-up of African-American models.
