Milan Menswear Show Fall 2005
By: Randal Jacobs
MILAN, Jan 16, 2005/ FW/ --- Milan Men’s fashion week got to a great start without traffic. Of course fashion week would begin with the city of Milan demanding everyone not to drive due to high pollution, which has produced heavy fog in the past week.
How in the world could something like this occur when most fashionistas and editors do not know how to walk and could never be caught with their Jimmy Choo’s gracing the floors of the Metro.
Jil Sander started fashion week off on this quiet Sunday. The world of fashion started to migrate to this sacred land earlier last week. You can tell by the number of restaurants filled with people conversing about what invites haven’t come and who is the new the fashion director of Runway Magazine.
Fashion week is almost like waiting for Christmas because Milan not only gets a new vibe, but there is a buzz in the city that is like none other event or convention. Maybe it is the high testosterone levels of the city due to the influx of every male supermodel on this side of the Mississippi river.
With Armani ending the fashion week on Thursday, fashionistas will have only one large complaint. This major/minor complaint will be about new smoking regulations. As fashionable as it is to smoke a Virginia Ultra Slim, it is not so fashionable to freeze outdoors for a few hits and a quick puff.
For those Americans who come to Europe to be in smoker’s heaven, they have just stepped in a non-smoking in public areas city as of this month.
With all of these going on, we cannot forget about the main purpose of this week that is fashion.
With all of the cold weather, everyone is wrapped in his or her red plaid Burberry scarves compliments of Burberry today at the show. It is really hard to get to any show without fighting off 5’4 women in fur coats around the city. Not knowing any better, I would think that these women killed these animals themselves… So there you have it furs and freebies are all the rage…
The week seems very promising and will sure be unforgettable for us all.
