This week in Milan, RFW continues its march into recognition by the fashionistas with a booth at the Fiera exhibit hall with a sampling of works by Russian designers.

‘Moscow has become an exciting fashion scene,’ said Ksenila Ponomarenko, International PR Manager for Artefact, producer of RFW. Her claim is proven by the clothes on display in the booth that ranged from street wear to formal gowns, to sportswear, then to the more avant-garde.

With 59 designers from 11 countries participating during the Spring 2006 season last October, it is bigger than most cities trying to emerge as a fashion capital in their geographical areas.

Recognizing the dominance of New York, London, Milan and Paris when it comes to fashion, RFW is held in April and October, after the international fashion season.

‘Dates for RFW is carefully chosen so that there will not be a conflict with either one of the four cities,’ said Ponomarenko. ‘The dates also allow some much needed time to rest for journalists and buyers after a very hectic schedule.’

Held on Red Square, at the Vassiliev Slope in Moscow, the main venue of RFW is a massive 4500 square meter tent, with two fully equipped catwalks specifically built for the event.

Last October, there were over 700 journalists who covered RFW and its sponsors include Pantene Pro-V, Motorola, Carte Noire, Moet & Chandon, Hennessy, Audi, Hewlett Packard, San Pellegrino, Sobranie and Nikon.

The Fall 2006 Russian season is scheduled to take place during the last week of March, first week of April.
