Milano Moda Donna (Milan Womenwear Show)Spring 2006
MILAN, Sep 26, 2005/ FW/ --- One would not notice that the actual temperature is actually in the cool 70 degrees as Milan heats up on the third day of the shows.
With the full contingency of the fashion press now in the city, limos, cabs and even the trams are filled with fashionistas trying to get from one show to the next.
And it is not only the fashionistas who are on the move. On catwalk, the waistline is moving from empire and baby dolls to the natural waist and finally to the upper hip.
Alright, so the waist is influx, and currently in a cusp. It is still early to tell where the waist will be come springtime, but one thing is for sure, women can look forward looking their best.
Spearheading the ‘moving waistline’ trend is D&G that featured lingerie-inspired ensembles in a predominantly white-collection that featured bustier tops and dresses. Lacy frocks and dresses cinched at the waist with ribbons and bows that sometimes come as an outside ‘corset’ made this collection more than sensuous.
And if the D&G lady wants to venture outside her boudoir, she’ll be wearing low-rise shorts and minis.
Alviero Martini, who showed at the Fiera today, put the waist in two places – natural and on the hipline. Tailored separates featured belts made of the same material with the buckle as the only embellishments. Pantsuit sets were low-rise and so does the more casual and flowing skirts that either had wide bands at the hipline or a leather belt as an accessory or both.
Debora Sinibaldi went the same route as Martini, though she concentrated more on shorts and minis. Then she added empire-waist mini cocktail dresses. With a target market for teens and twenty-something, Sinibaldi’s collection hit it right on the mark with low-rise sweats and shorts and snug-fitting transparent blouses.
