MILAN, Sep 27, 2006/ FW/ --- Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all? Why obviously the Gaetano Navarra woman, she’s beautiful and she knows it. Her clothes are sexy and rich in details perfect for her party going life and true diva ways.
Not the average designer, Gaetano’s collection for spring summer 2007, was full of daring pieces and blends of materials. His ideal customer is comfortable with taking these chances because she knows she can pull any thing off.
Not everyone can wear a peach jumpsuit with large ruffle shoulders embroidered in lace. But, boy, are we jealous of those who can! Navarra added black and white to his base colours of aromatic pink, and beige, dolphin grey and mangrove green.
Jackets were in optical sixties colours of mango red pop vinyl, Rothko yellow, and fauve orange. The collection started off with black and white Peggy Moffitt outfits that had volume and flow.
The classic sweatshirt was reworked into an elegant piece. Half the back was covered in beaded mesh while the hood and sleeves were made of chain mail. A matte jersey grey dress was detailed much in the same way and the interesting design created gathered details flattering to the body. Chain mail was also blended with thick cable knits and knit viscose.
If you need a rain jacket (or purse) you can’t get any better then the plastic 60’s style Navarra creations. Silver and copper costume jewellery embellished the hems, cuffs and shoulder seems, creating an illusionist blend of clear on clear. Bags were done in the same plastic but with chain straps and biker stud details.
Trousers were short, tight and jodhpur styles. While skirts and dresses ranged from minis to exploding fans of ruches. Jean fabric used in dresses and tops had many ruffle details that added volume to the otherwise slim fit.
Silver fabrics draped from the sleeves and puffed from the hems. Large metallic brass details contrasted the fabric and defined the shoulder seams. Brass rivets also covered the tops of the clear wedged heels.
The collection was perfect for the Navarra girls motto “I’m fabulous and I know it”, but I hope Gaetano knows how fabulous he is!
